NetEase
Launches Revolutionary Television Advertising Campaign Aimed at Stimulating
Further Growth of China's Internet |
|
|
 |
|
|
Beijing, August 14, 2000 |
 |
|
NetEase.com,
Inc. (NASDAQ: NTES), a leading China-based Internet technology
company, is reaching out to audiences throughout China with
the launch of a television advertising campaign designed to
stimulate further growth in China's developing Internet market.
The theme of the new television advertisements, scheduled to
air throughout China beginning August 15, is "Power to the People",
a slogan that reflects NetEase's
belief that the Internet empowers its users through meaningful
information sharing and exchange. According to China Internet
Network Information Centre's recent semi-annual report, Internet
users in China doubled during the past six months and the ads
intend to both enhance this trend and capitalize on it by attracting
more registered users to the NetEase
Web sites. |
 |
|
"No Internet company in China has ever produced
advertisements that will have the same impact as the NetEase
Television Ad Campaign. We worked with an international creative
team to design the TV ads with a distinctly Chinese flavor that
will inspire the Chinese people to get involved in the Internet,"
says NetEase Chief
Executive Officer King Lai. "The Internet brings people together
through sharing, the exchange of information, mutual support
and collaboration. Our campaign will help empower the people
of China with all the gifts the Internet has to offer. This
is how NetEase
will deliver Power to the People." |
 |
 |
The one minute long television ads were shot
at scenic locations throughout China such as the Great Wall,
the Li River in Guangxi province, the Forbidden City and Beijing's
Worker's Stadium and feature unique characters including a dragon
dancer, ping pong player and ancient military leader. Unlike
previous advertising campaigns by Internet companies that highlight
products or services, the NetEase
campaign focuses on the theme of bringing the people of China
and the world together through the Internet. Two lines from
the ad campaign sum up the overall message best: |
 |
 |
"Only through participation and sharing can
we be 1.2 billion times stronger. This is the power of the Internet."
|
 |
 |
"China has seen rapid growth in Internet
usage and NetEase
is well-positioned to accelerate more growth," King Lai, CEO
of NetEase emphasizes.
"With the opening of the NetEase
Online Store and NetEase's
cooperation with ChinaCast on web site access (www.163.com)
via satellite link, we are growing with China's Internet industry
and have outstanding services to offer both our current and
future users." NetEase
is a pioneer of China's Internet industry and since its launch
in 1997 has been the first to provide a series of cutting edge
online navigation, community and e-commerce services to Chinese
Internet users. "We are committed to promoting the development
of the Internet in China and our presence on TV will help more
Chinese understand and explore the Internet," adds Lai. |
 |
 |
To achieve their goal to make the NetEase
Web sites the leading on-line network in China, NetEase
has made it a priority to enhance their brand recognition with
both Internet users and non-users. The new TV campaign is one
of their strategies to realize their goal of making the NetEase
brand synonymous with the Internet. "The escalating number of
Internet users in China has made now a great time for NetEase
to start spending TV offline and to broaden our marketing reach,"
NetEase Chief Operating
Officer Susan Chen points out. "This campaign is part of our
strategy to build NetEase
strong brand recognition and will help to stimulate more internet
users and help us catch a significant portion of this exploding
market." |
 |
 |
According to CNNIC's recent semi-annual report,
there were 16.9 million Internet users in China as of June 30,
2000, twice as many as just six months previously. However,
recognizing that the Internet in China is still in its infancy,
NetEase is encouraging
every sector, from the government to other Internet companies
to the general public, to work together to support its continued
development and all will ultimately prosper from the success
of the Internet. |
