NetEase.com
Ranked China's Top Web Site |
|
 |
|
|
Beijing, September 19, 2000 |
 |
|
Iamasia announced recently China's top 20
Web sites as ranked according to the number of unique home Internet
users. The NetEase
(NASDAQ: NTES) Web site, www.163.com,
was rated China's number one Web site in terms of both unique
home audience and in number of page views. iamasia, a leading
source of intelligence on Internet usage in the Asia Pacific
region, published its latest "China's Top Web sites" ranking
on Thursday, September 14. iamasia takes a "user-based" approach
in its research to effectively track the actual Internet usage
of large groups of individuals. |
 |
|
According to the report, NetEase's
163.com site alone reaches 17% more people than number two Web
site, Sina.com.cn; has twice as many unique users as Yahoo!;
and has 4 times more total page views than China.com. NetEase's
163.com reaches more than half of all China home Internet users
on its own. For comparison, in US, only Yahoo! And America OnLine
are able to reach more than half of U.S. Internet users. |
 |
 |
"Our ranking as the number one Web site in
Mainland China in terms of both unique home visitors and page
views, clearly demonstrates NetEase's
leading position in China's Internet market," said King F. Lai,
Chief Executive Officer of NetEase.
"We are committed to being the foremost Internet player in China
by continuing to develop and launch innovative, user-friendly
products and services that meet the needs of the rocketing Chinese
Internet population. This point is reinforced by the fact that
the NetEase Web
sites include not only the top Web site but also two more of
the top twenty Web sites in China, including the number four
ranked www.yeah.net." |
 |
 |
Mr. Lai refers to the iamasia rankings report
which shows that in addition to the number one ranked NetEase
Web site www.163.com, NetEase
property www.yeah.net took the position of fourth most popular
according to unique home users; edging out ChinaRen.com, a site
that is focused on student users, to the number five spot. For
reference, Sina.com.cn ranked second in the report, while Sohu.com
placed third (see attached table). |
 |
 |
163.com has been recognized as one of the
top Chinese portals locally, regionally and globally. NetEase's
Web site has been chosen twice as the most popular Web site
in China in semi-annual surveys conducted by the China Internet
Network Information Center (CNNIC). The latest CNNIC survey
released in July of 2000 again rated NetEase
among the top three most popular Web sites in China. In addition,
NetEase's ranking
in the Alexa 1,000 list has been the highest of all Chinese
portals for eight consecutive months since December 1999. Alexa
(www.alexa.com) is a leading
provider of information about how the Web enables intelligent
business and consumer decisions. Taiwan's Bnext magazine, a
monthly publication on e-business, finance and the New Economy
in Asia, named 163.com as one of the top two most popular Web
sites in Greater China and Singapore in July. |
 |
 |
"The iamasia.com report is an important tool
for advertisers and marketers to use in selecting effective
Web sites while making efficient media buys," said Susan Chen,
NetEase Chief Operating
Officer. "What they can see now is that by simply making a single
buy in NetEase's
163.com Web site, they will be able to reach over 50% of China's
home Internet population. And importantly, this targeted audience
reaches very desirable demographics highly educated consumers
with almost twice the average income of non-Internet users."
