NetEase.com
Unveils Next Generation Search and Directory Services |
|
 |
|
|
First leading China-based portal to adopt
open directory methodology and integrate Google's Chinese language
search and Web search.
Beijing, September 19, 2000 |
 |
|
Today NetEase.com,
Inc. (NASDAQ: NTES), a leading Internet technology company
based in China, unveiled its next generation search and directory
services. NetEase
has adopted the advanced open directory methodology and integrated
the innovative Google search engine to provide its all-inclusive
search technology. These enhancements will provide a new level
of comprehensive, efficient, relevant and accurate service for
Chinese Internet users that search for information online. |
 |
|
The NetEase
Web site has restructured its popular Web directory and adopted
the open directory methodology that has gained popularity among
world-class portals and search engines. It is the first China-based
portal that gives access to an advanced web directory editing
and management system. The NetEase
Web site also uses the open directory methodology to further
manage its continually growing Web directory. Relying on a multitude
of volunteer editors, albeit committed editors, the open directory
method enhances the quality and comprehensiveness of a Chinese
Web directory. By using a large team of editors to locate and
retain the best content and eliminate inaccurate or useless
information the NetEase
Web directory is continually current. |
 |
 |
In the first five days the enhanced search
directory was introduced to the NetEase
Web site, nearly 1,000 experts and professionals in various
fields of expertise signed up to become NetEase
directory editors. |
 |
 |
Another exciting feature of the NetEase
Web site is the utilization of the Google search engine. By
integrating the Google search engine technology into the NetEase
Web site, NetEase
allows users to access a searchable index of over 24 million
Chinese language Web pages and more than 1 billion Web documents.
The next generation NetEase
search offers Chinese Web-surfers simple, fast and highly relevant
results. The Key features of the NetEase's
search engine include its simplicity for users, clean interface,
highly pertinent results, and comprehensive vertical search
services including searches for current events, stock prices,
employment, software and comedic entertainment. |
 |
 |
NetEase
Chief Executive Officer King F. Lai stated, "The Internet brings
people together through sharing, the exchange of information,
mutual support and collaboration." "Our next generation searching
engine and directory service will help empower the people of
China with all the gifts the Internet has to offer. China has

application in Internet usage," said William Ding, founder and
