The Great Wall Broadband Network Service
Co., Ltd. (GWBN) is a hi-tech network service company
established in April 2000 with joint investments from
the Great Wall Science & Technology Co., Ltd., China Great
Wall Computer Ltd. (Shenzhen) and Shenzhen Development
Science & Technology Co., Ltd. The Great Wall Science
& Technology Company is a public corporation trading H
shares, while the latter two partners are publicly listed
with A shares. |
 |
In order to accelerate the development
of the Internet, GWBN is devoting its efforts to constructing
the Great Wall Broadband Network using advanced next generation
technology. Over the next three years the infrastructure
for the Great Wall Broadband Network will be put in place
in major cities throughout the country. To augment the
company's rapid development strategy, GWBN has established
its headquarters in Beijing representing North China and
regional offices in Shanghai covering East China, Shenzhen
in South China, Wuhan in Central China and Chengdu in
Southwest China. |
 |
Keeping in line with the current trend
of high-speed broadband Internet technology and in consideration
of the high concentration of inland residences which are
becoming increasingly more standardized, the Broadband
Network is building a fiber-optical broadband Ethernet
with households as the starting point. Modern homes will
now be equipped with a network interface in addition to
the more traditional telephone and TV interfaces. Community
networks will link into metropolitan area networks, through
which, they will be connected to the backbone network
for the whole country. |
 |
The Broadband Network is oriented to
provide Internet users with access to services with a
bandwidth of over 10M. It will also offer a variety of
featured information services, including WWW browsing,
VOD, E-mail, E-commerce, online chat, online games, distance
learning, remote medical services and culture and entertainment. |
